Outstanding care workers took centre stage at the West Sussex Care Accolades – the county’s care ‘Oscars’.

The awards recognise the hard work and dedication of people working in a wide variety of jobs in adult social care, including dementia care and caring for people in their own homes.

Award recipients included people who go above and beyond in their work by planning activities for their residents and providing the best level of care possible.

Winners received a trophy and shopping vouchers.

The awards, now in their seventh year, are organised by West Sussex Partners in Care and supported by the County Council.

Abbey Cornell, social care co-ordinator at Summerlands care homes in Haywards Heath, won the Ancillary Worker Award. She was recognised for a number of different sessions she runs at the home to engage residents in activities.

“I like this job because I can make people happy. That’s the best bit. I can have one-to-one time with people and make a difference to their life every day. I also like getting to know everyone and making them smile.”

“I would say to someone thinking about a career in care to do it! Once you get into it you’ll love it. It’s a good career.”
