2017 West Sussex Care Accolades

We are extremely excited to announce that the care employer award was won by Deborah Cresswell for Summerlands. Well done Deborah!

West Sussex Care Accolades

Outstanding care workers took centre stage at the West Sussex Care Accolades – the county’s care ‘Oscars’.

The awards recognise the hard work and dedication of people working in a wide variety of jobs in adult social care, including dementia care and caring for people in their own homes.

Award recipients included people who go above and beyond in their work by planning activities for their residents and providing the best level of care possible.

Winners received a trophy and shopping vouchers.

The awards, now in their seventh year, are organised by West Sussex Partners in Care and supported by the County Council.

Abbey Cornell, social care co-ordinator at Summerlands care homes in Haywards Heath, won the Ancillary Worker Award. She was recognised for a number of different sessions she runs at the home to engage residents in activities.

"I like this job because I can make people happy. That’s the best bit. I can have one-to-one time with people and make a difference to their life every day. I also like getting to know everyone and making them smile."

"I would say to someone thinking about a career in care to do it! Once you get into it you’ll love it. It’s a good career."

We represent the Care arena in The Parliamentary Review

Summerlands Residential Care Home has been selected to appear in the 2015/16 edition of The Parliamentary Review. Established by former minister The Rt Hon David Curry shortly after the 2010 general election, The Parliamentary Review’s September release has become a key fixture in the political calendar.

Summerlands Residential Care Home features alongside The Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt Hon Philip Hammond, and a small number of outstanding organisations in the Care edition. The main aim of The Review is to showcase best practice as a learning tool to the public and private sector, with this edition aimed particularly at leading policymakers and executives within the Care arena.

Alongside pieces from the selected representatives and an introduction from the Chancellor, it contains a look back at the year in Westminster and the Care arena, with the political commentary written by Mark D'Arcy (BBC's Parliamentary Correspondent).

The document is sent out to tens of thousands of leading policymakers. The articles in The Review act as both a blueprint for success and a template for reform.

Director of The Parliamentary Review, Daniel Yossman, said: “It’s been an utter privilege to work with a range of organisations from across the country in this year’s Review. Without their input, our aims of spreading expert knowledge and raising standards simply would not be achievable. They’ll be a hard act to follow and next year’s organisations will have to be on the top of their game to meet the challenge.”

Editor of The Parliamentary Review, The Rt Hon David Curry, said: "Each of the representatives brings something very different to the table, while at the same time capitalising on the collective wisdom of their industry. There may be choppy waters ahead but organisations across the country would be well-advised to keep an eye on the representatives in this year’s Review when deciding how to set their sails.”

Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt Hon Philip Hammond, concurred: “The message we take to the world is this: we are the same outward-looking, globally-minded, big-thinking country we have always been – and we remain very firmly open for business.”

The Parliamentary Review’s publication is marked by gala events at the House of Commons on the 19th and 23rd September.
